This unique event brings together athletes from all the individual kayaking disciplines, extreme expedition paddlers, freestylers and Olympic slalom kayakers, to compete against one another on the legendary Wellerbrücke rapids, a section of the glacier-fed Ötztaler Ache River that is considered to be one of the most difficult stretches of whitewater on the planet. Out of 150 of the world’s finest paddlers only the top 52 men and top 8 women qualify for the actual World Championship race. To become the Extreme Kayak World Champion you have to survive two knock-out rounds and then clock the fastest time in the final.
